Stress is an inevitable part of life. For high school seniors such as myself, the pressures of student life can often seem unavoidable. From filling out college applications to studying for important tests and exams, the stress can become overwhelming at times. In my experience, stress can lead to a multitude of issues including difficulty sleeping, loss of motivation, and frequent anxiety attacks. When I began experiencing these issues more frequently, I knew I had to find a solution.
Recently I discovered Transcendental Meditation, an easy and effective way to help reduce everyday anxiety and stress. If somebody had told me two years ago that I’d be meditating on a regular basis, I’d have told them they were out of their mind. I’m a skeptic when it comes to spiritual stuff, and I admit when I first heard about meditation I thought it was bogus. However, when my anxiety and stress were at an all-time high, I decided to give it a chance. Much to my surprise, meditation has really improved my daily life. The best part about Transcendental Meditation (also known as “TM”) is that anyone can do it. it’s a super-easy method, even for people who believe they “can’t meditate.” All it takes is two 20-minute intervals out of your day.
While this may seem time consuming at first, in the long run you’ll gain so much time back because of increased energy, focus, and productivity. Meditation has been scientifically proven to help people let go of unhealthy emotional stress, which leads to physical tension in the body. Meditation is not the only effective method for minimizing stress, but it is something I’d definitely recommend. Without meditation, my life would seem a lot more chaotic than it is. Meditation helps to keep me centered and focused as I navigate the final challenging year of my high school career. To learn meditation yourself, check out a book or a local class and get yourself in the “om” zone.
