Our Commitment To Privacy

Your privacy is important to us. To better protect your privacy we provide this notice explaining our online information practices and the choices you can make about the way your information is collected and used.

Confidentiality

It is the intent of this organization to support the offer of confidential communication which has been extended in good faith to the users of our services since our inception in 1980.

This is not a new policy, merely a reaffirmation to confirm and codify our long-standing practice. References to our intent to offer confidential services have appeared throughout our history in our advertising, in staff and volunteer training manuals, in the oral training of staff members and volunteers, and in the service contracts signed by all staff members and volunteers.

In general, records will remain confidential, with the following exceptions:

  1. when a direct and tangible threat is present, and the caller, or other parties may be endangered,
  2. when the provisions of existing contracts, laws or regulations require disclosure,
  3. when other circumstances, as determined by the Executive Director, make disclosure the most appropriate choice.

California law permits the release of confidential information in situations where serious danger to a foreseeable victim is present and where our therapists suspect child abuse.

The Executive Director is authorized to take such steps as she deems reasonable and necessary to protect the confidentiality of records.

We are aware that this policy and our efforts to support it may not always shield the privacy of records.

The Information We Collect

This notice applies to all information collected or submitted on the Teen Line website. On some pages, you can order products, make requests, and make donations. You may also and register to be a Teen Line online member, participate on our message boards, or email us.

We collect information volunteered by the consumer, such as survey information and/or site registrations, payment information (e.g., credit card number and billing address) and Domain name and email address (where possible) of those who participate on our Message Boards.

For each visitor to our Web page, our Web server automatically recognizes the consumer’s domain name and e-mail address (where possible). This web site (https://www.teenlineonline.org) does not store or capture personal information, but merely logs the user’s IP address which is automatically recognized by the Web server.

The Way We Use Information:

We use the information you provide about yourself when placing an order only to complete that order. We do not share this information with outside parties except to the extent necessary to complete that order.

We use return email addresses to answer the email we receive. Such addresses are not used for any other purpose and are not shared with outside parties.

We use non-identifying and aggregate information to better design our website and to secure funding for our organization. For example, we may tell a grantor that X number of individuals visited a certain area on our website, or that Y number of men and Z number of women filled out our registration form, but we would not disclose anything that could be used to identify those individuals.

Finally, we never use or share the personally identifiable information provided to us online in ways unrelated to the ones described above without also providing you an opportunity to opt-out or otherwise prohibit such unrelated uses.

We will not collect any information except that required for system administration of the Web server, or that which is provided by you knowingly and voluntarily.

If you supply us with your postal address on-line you will only receive the information for which you provided us your address.

Persons who supply us with their telephone numbers on-line will only receive telephone contact from us with information regarding orders they have placed on-line.

We use third-party advertising companies to serve ads when you visit our website. These companies may use information (not including your name, address, email address, or telephone number) about your visits to this and other websites in order to provide advertisements about goods and services of interest to you. To prevent unauthorized access, maintain data accuracy, and ensure the correct use of information, we have put in place appropriate physical, electronic, and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure the information we collect online.
