2011 Out of the Darkness Community Walk

Dear supporter of TEEN LINE:

Did you know that a life is lost to suicide every 16 minutes in the United States? And that suicide is the third leading cause of death among fifteen to twenty-four year olds and the second leading cause of death among college students? The impact suicide has on the lives of family members, friends, co-workers and the community is devastating.

Please join me and the TEEN LINE Team on October 22nd in Santa Monica at the 2011 Out of the Darkness Community Walk to benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. A major goal of this event is to show support for the families and friends of the 33,000 Americans who die by suicide, and the 20 million people who suffer from depression, each year. Support of the Walk also helps to raise funds for suicide prevention, research and educational programs, and to erase the stigma surrounding suicide and its causes.

I hope you will consider supporting my participation in this event. This year the TEEN LINE Team will be walking to honor the memory of two young people who tragically took their lives – 14 year old Matthew Mezza and 18 year old Matthew Silverman.

I would appreciate any support that you can give for this worthwhile cause. Any contribution will help the work of AFSP, and all donations are 100% tax deductible. Donating online is safe and easy! To make an online donation please click the “Support This Participant” button on the TEEN LINE page at www.Outofthedarkness.org. If you prefer to support TEEN LINE’s suicide prevention efforts please go to our website www.teenlineonline.org.

I am attaching a flyer about the walk and look forward to seeing you there. Check in at the TEEN LINE table from 7:45 am. The program begins promptly at 9 am at the Santa Monica City Hall, 1685 Main Street, Santa Monica, 90401. Thank you for your support.

Sincerely,

Elaine Leader, Ph.D.
