Youth Yellow Pages: Introduction

The Youth Yellow Pages is a resource guide written just for you. The agencies and organizations listed in this guide can help you with problems or make your life more interesting and enjoyable. The Youth Yellow Pages can help you become more aware of the resources in Southern California that can offer the information and services you need. Almost all of the agencies listed guarantee your confidentiality when you call them. This means that they will not tell other people what you talk about. If you want to make sure that the agency will keep your conversation private, simply ask them when you first call, “Will this conversation be confidential?”

The Youth Yellow Pages is available to remind you that you are not alone. There are people who care.

How to Use the Youth Yellow Pages

The Table of Contents, at the front of the booklet, is organized by subject matter. The index, located at the end of the booklet, is organized by names of specific agencies and organizations. Use these to find numbers quickly. Don’t be embarrassed or afraid to ask questions or to say what you need. Keep calling different agencies until you reach someone who can answer your questions or help you with your problem.

If you happen to call a number which is no longer working, don’t give up! You can refer to the business section of the White Pages of your Phone Book, call information to find the new number, or call another agency listed in that same section.

Tips for Dealing with Agencies

When you call an agency, it helps both you and the agency if you ask the following questions:

  • What area of the county do you serve?
  • Who can receive your services?
  • What are your hours?
  • Where are you located?
  • Do I need permission from a parent or legal guardian?
  • What documents should I bring with me?

Remember, write down all the information you gather, including:

  • Name of the agency and person with whom you spoke
  • Date you made contact

You can also call TEEN LINE between 6:00 pm and 10:00 pm (PST) seven days a week to talk to a teen who can give you referral numbers. 1-800-TLC-TEEN; 310-855- 4673; 818-432-2266; and 951-826-4673
