TEEN QUESTION/PROBLEM:
My mom tends to focus more attention on my younger brother. He is 10.She always scolds me about doing work and keeping things in order. If I ask her that 'Can I help" she says that i don't know anything and i should go and do my own work. Then she will scold me for reading and not helping her out.I am so tired of this. I want to run away. sometimes i think of suicide but i do know that its not a good idea. HELP!!!
TEEN LINE WROTE:
Hey,
It sounds like you are a very caring person and really want to help your mom and it seems that your getting frustrated with how she is treating you. you must feel realy helpless and hurt that your mom gives more attention to your younger brother and its understandable to be upset, but suicide is never a good idea,as it is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. Have you considered talking to your mom about how you are feeling? Try asking her to reserve time for just you and her to talk and maybe together you can come up with some type of list that can be there as a guide line of the chores and things that are expected of you. Is your dad around? Or do you have any older siblings or a school counselor that you could talk to? Some time just explaining how you are feeling can help things.
I'm really glad that you chose to contact us here at TEEN LINE. If you ever feel like you want to talk feel free to email us or call any day from 6 to 10pm 310-855 -4673. Also if you ever need the number for suicide hot line is 800-784-2433. Thanks for emailing us.
