TEEN QUESTION/PROBLEM:
My friend hasn't had her period since december 21st and its the 23rd of january. See her and her boyfriend have been sexually active but they practice safe sex and shes also very careful and checks the condoms everytime they are done. Plus shes never missed a period. Since her last period her and her boyfriend have done it 4 times. She knows she can't have it up for adoption because her parents will kill her and she knows it because her mom always tells her to never get a boyfriend because she might get pregnant. See I'm asking how much an abortion would cost and if she needed her parent's approval to do so. Shes only 14 i might add... Also we live in daly city and if there is a possibility of her getting an abortion privately where could we be able to do that? I'm scared because if she can't get an abortion, shes going to try to get a miscarriage, which I don't really want her to do..

hanks for emailing us at TEEN LINE. It sounds like your friend is going through a really hard time. It also sounds like you two are very close and her pain is affecting you. You obviously care about her a lot and want to help her through this tough situation. First of all, she may or may not be pregnant. Has she tried a pregnancy test, or gone to a doctor? If she is in fact pregnant, she will need a lot of support, which sounds like what you want to give her. You mentioned that you wanted a number for a place where she might be able to get an abortion and explore her options. Here is a number for Planned Parenthood, a clinic which will help your friend explore her options and it does provide confidential abortions (as long as you're over 12). The number is (800) 967-7526.
