TEEN QUESTION/PROBLEM:
Hi I am 18 and I've been living with a friend who has custody of me. She can no longer provide for me. I am still in high school and now I need to find another place to live. I have called the child protection hotline and they said that they can't help me since I'm legally an adult. Can I still get into the teen shelters here in San diego like tousiannt or storefront since I'm still in high school even though I'm 18?? Please help me if you can?

TEEN LINE WROTE:
This sounds like a stressful situation. You can always call TEEN LINE even though you are 18. The Toussaint Teen Center doesn't accept people over 17, but the Storefront has the Bridgman Home and Take Wing Transitional Living Community which do accept 18 year olds. Also, The Covenant House California gives referrals for 18-20 year olds and they can help you find a shelter in your area. Depending on your situation you could also look into Young Adult Affordable Housing: 35th Street Apts and Herman Street. But, if you give Take Wing a call at the number below they should be able to refer you to some sites that you might be able to afford.

Take Wing 3255 Wing Street San Diego, CA 92110 (619) 221-8610 ext. 284 fax: (619) 223-3596 This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

Give these a try, and please know that you can always call us here at TEEN LINE if you need to talk. 1-800-TLC-TEEN (852-8336) or try us on the Live Chat.
Good Luck!
