what should i do??? please help as soon as possiable

hi ok this is my first post so please dont judge me .....anyways.here is my current problem that i need some major help on .i am like in total like, love ,or what ever with my best guy friend though people have told me in the past that they can tell that we like each other he hasnt made a move and i am too afraid to make one as well. yet yesterday while i was seemingly enjoying my lunch with my two best friend, his friends came along and took him soon after a girl he knows came and asks me if i liked him and that he was being a an ass for leading me on. i litteraly froze and didnt know what to say and well i guess she took that as a yes and went to tell him off and thanks to this his other friends are now calling him an ass and other thing(which are really rude) i tink i ruined his friendship with these people yet i dont feel that they should have butt in since i dont even really know them and this is an issue between myself and him,.... what do you guys thinnk?? what should i do??

first of all it was no one elses business so they should have stayed out of it..secondly..i would talk to him about it...and clarify things with everyone else..its probably not that out of hand yet...and im sure it could be easily fixed if you explain he's not a jerk and kindly ask everyone to stay out of it..hope i helped:)
